Mobile Number Portability(MNP)

Are you not satisfied with your current mobile operator? Are you looking for changing your mobile operator without changing the mobile number? If your answer is yes to above questions then just wait for one more quarter when DoT will come with Mobile Number Portability(MNP) .
MNP enable subscribers to switch telecom operators without getting their phone numbers changed. MNP is coming with lots of surprises for customers. It will help the customer to get rid of the operator which is not giving satisfactory services, but they are retaining it because they don't want to lose the number. On the basis of a recent survey more than 90% users are prepaid customers and they are not loyal to their operators. Now the operators will give the best rates and lucrative offers in order retain their customer base. It also give a fair chance to all service providers to compete by offering innovative products, better quality and prices.

Around 60 countries have already adopted MNP. According to Frost and Sullivan report on MNP in Asian telecom markets, MNP worked well in South Korea and Hong Kong, while it has proved ineffective in Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. Of the 12mn subscribers in Hong Kong, 1.5mn apply for mobile number porting annually. Porting charges vary from $0.38 to as high as $42.92, while time to effect port varies from 3 hours to 7 days

According to Frost and Sullivan study MNP has work well in asian countries, mainly South Korea and Hong Kong while it was ineffective in Taiwan (with 9 operators), Japan (5 operators) and and Singapore (3 operators).

I am very much sure that this service will work well in India also and provide a good opportunity for users to choose what is best for them.
